Jadavpur University Restores Admission Entrance Tests for 6 UG Courses
The popular Jadavpur University has restored the admission entrance tests that were scrapped for six of its undergraduate courses. The first official announcement on the restoration of the old admission system was made at 8.30 pm on July 10, 2018.
West Bengal based Jadavpur University has recently faced a lot of criticism after it decided to scrap the old system of conducting entrance test for admission to its six undergraduate courses. Due to the massive protests of students and teachers, the authorities of the varsity restored the admission test for six UG courses. The restoration of the old examination system has put an end to the ongoing protests partially. It is the absolute victory of all the teachers and students who strived hard for restoring the old system.
However, the protest continued since the executive council of the varsity did not decide whether the examinations would be conducted by JU teachers or an external body.
A week ago, the Executive Council of the varsity decided to conduct an entrance test for courses in History, Political Science, Comparative Literature, Bengali, English and Philosophy admissions to which were to be based on the score of the candidate in the entrance test (50%) and the remaining 50% keeping in view the merit of the candidate in class 12th exams.
However, on 4th July, the Council decided against it and informed about the doing away of the entrance tests for the admission to the respective programs. It clearly stated that the admissions will be based on the pure merit of the applicants in the previous examinations of class 12th. The Executive Council further clarified that this decision has been only taken for the current academic year in order to address the legal questions regarding the process.
