Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) to Launch B.Sc Aeronautics Course
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation- DGCA has given approval to Pawan Hans Ltd. to launch a programme in Aeronautics and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) might be the first central university in the country to launch a B.Sc Aeronautics course. For this purpose, JMI has collaborated with Pawan Hans Limited, India’s national helicopter company. It is a mini-Ratan Tata Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). JMI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pawan Hans Limited to offer three-year B.Sc Aeronautics course. Some of the officials of the varsity and Pawan Hans Limited were present during the collaboration process.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation- DGCA has given approval to Pawan Hans Ltd. to launch a programme in Aeronautics and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The DGCA has given approval to CAR-147 (Basic) under B1.3 and B2 to start a B.Sc programme in Aeronautics and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

B.Sc Aeronautics course that will be offered by Jamia Millia Islamia is a dual degree course. After the completion of the course, JMI will award the B.Sc degree and a Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering will be issued by DGCA or Directorate General of Civil Aviation. JMI’s Faculty of Engineering will teach the theoretical aspects of the course. On the other hand, Pawan Hans Limited will impart practical training.
B.Sc Aeronautical course by Pawan Hans Limited and JMI is open to both male and female students. The minimum qualification required to join the course is Class 12 with Mathematics and Science as the compulsory subjects. The applicants must qualify an entrance examination for the admission to B.Sc Aeronautical course.

Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia pointed out that the civil aviation industry has been developing at a rapid pace and the introduction of this course will help in meeting the demands or requirements of the same.
Earlier, JMI had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Through the MoU, Indian Navy and Air Force personnel can pursue degree courses in JMI.
