Javadekar Supports the Evolution of New Education Policy

The HRD ministry is determined to revolutionize the Education Policy and a committee of expert educationalists has been appointed to finalize the changes. The evolution is not limited to the suggestions made by the Subramanian panel but will also consider the feedback taken from stakeholders.

The committee has been working to collect the perceptive and recommendations of people on this matter for some time now and will soon be sending a draft to the Cabinet so that further decisions can be taken in this regard.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the ministry has been working to provide more autonomy to higher educational institutions. He further said that appointments should be de-politicized to keep education away from the monopoly of politics.

Talking about the importance of education, he said that education is a national agenda and not a political agenda. India is a nation where 27 crore students are enrolled from primary education to higher education.

The minister said that efforts have been made to remove bureaucracy from the system and bring in transparency. He stressed on the fact that there is a need to motivate innovation and instill means that promote creativity in education rather than following a rigid approach.

Over 29,000 suggestions were received by the ‘Mygov’ platform that has been expanded to millions of pages. TSR Subramanian committee was also involved in consultations at their own level. This is the reason behind the deliberation as 1.10 lakh villages were consulted. This also included over 4,000 block-level consultations and around 500 district-level consultations.

To avoid any misconception regarding the finalization of the decisions and policies, a hard copy of the report was sent to each MP. Apart from that, the 43-page input is also available on the official website of National University of Educational Planning and Administration. The ministry has kept the suggestion window open so that the policies can be designed in a liberal way.

The minister also informed that Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 20 crores of funding have been provided to various education-related projects. These steps have been taken to promote research in higher educational institutes.

Javadekar also said that it is time to revamp the policies as they have not been revised since past 25 years. He believes that policies should also evolve with people and time since every generation have their own potential level and challenges to overcome in order to achieve success. Therefore it is essential to review the education policy from time to time.
