JEE Advanced 3rd attempt to be restored?: The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has changed the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria, a move that has caused significant confusion and disruption among students. According to the eligibility notice published on November 5, 2024, number of attempts were increased this year and candidates were allowed three times in three consecutive years to appear for JEE Advanced 2025. However, in a surprising reversal, JAB restored the eligibility criteria up to 2024 examination of two attempts only and published a new eligibility notice on November 18, 2024. This new notice stated that JAB has restored the earlier eligibility criteria, which were in place as per November 5, 2024 notice. As per this earlier eligibility criteria, candidates can now only appear for JEE Advanced two times, not three.

While the decision itself has not created chaos, the fact that JAB informed a change in eligibility on November 5, 2024, and then updated it again on November 18, 2024, has caused significant issues. Many students had made decisions based on the initial policy change, with some even dropping their second attempt due to the announced change. However, with the subsequent policy change reverting to the previous two-attempt limit, these students are now facing uncertainty about their career paths.

Some students have expressed their frustration on social media, questioning the authorities' decision-making process. They have asked why JAB initially announced a three-attempt policy, only to revert to the previous two-attempt limit. Students are also wondering why JAB did not stick to the original two-attempt policy if that was always the intention.

The confusion and perceived fault on the part of the authorities have led students to take legal action against JAB. A plea has been submitted by 22 students to the Supreme Court, seeking restoration of the third attempt. The next hearing is scheduled for January 6, 2025. Students are demanding the restoration of the third attempt, and the Supreme Court's decision is eagerly awaited.
