Changes in JEE Main Tie-Breaking Criteria 2025
The JEE Main 2025 tie-breaking criteria, along with the recent changes introduced have been provided here:
Criteria 1 - No Change: If there is a tie between candidates, then the highest NTA score obtained by the candidates in Mathematics will be first considered for resolving the tie.
Criteria 2 - No Change: If the tie persists between candidates, then the highest NTA score obtained by the candidates in Physics will be considered second for resolving the tie.
Criteria 3 - No Change: If the tie still persists between candidates, then the highest NTA score obtained by the candidates in Chemistry will be considered second for resolving the tie.
Criteria 4 - No Change: If the tie still persists between candidates, then the applicant with less number of attempted wrong answers and more correct numbers in all subjects will be considered fourth for resolving the tie.
Criteria 5 - No Change: If the tie still persists between candidates, then the applicant with less number of attempted wrong answers and more correct numbers in Mathematics will be considered fifth for resolving the tie.
Criteria 6 - No Change: If the tie still persists between candidates, then the applicant with less number of attempted wrong answers and more correct numbers in Physics will be considered sixth for resolving the tie.
Criteria 7 - No Change: If the tie still persists between candidates, then the applicant with less number of attempted wrong answers and more correct numbers in all Chemistry will be considered seventh for resolving the tie.
- Criteria 8 - Change: In 2024, the older candidate was given priority, and even if the tie remained after, then whichever candidate’s application number came first in the list was considered. However, from next year onwards, if the tie still remains after Criteria 7, then the candidates will be given the same percentile/rank. No priority will be given to age and application number. In 2024, due to age and application number, there were 9 criteria, but in 2025, only 8 criteria will be followed by replacing the old two with a new one.
