Jharkhand: Enrolment in Higher Education Doubles in 3 Years
During the academic session 2011-12, the state’s GER was less than half of national GER of 20.4. Similarly, during the academic session 2014-15, the national GER was 24.3 while the state GER was 15.4 which accounts for 63.37% of the national GER.
The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in Jharkhand’s state higher education has almost doubled in three years. According to the latest data provided by higher and technical education department, it was revealed that the GER in higher education was only 8.4 in 2011-12 and it increased to 10.1 in 2013-14 and reached 15.4 in 2014-15.

The higher education department had started a mass enrolment movement in the academic year 2014-15 which in turn increased the GER. OSD to the Secretary of Higher Education Department, GSR Gupta mentioned that the institutes across the state have been given freedom to appoint part-time lecturers to cater to the academic goals of the institutions.
The education department has given a strict directive to vocational departments of all the varsities that if they fail to get the students attention, the course will be scrapped. The decision taken by department motivated the teachers in driving the students towards vocational courses.

Various private universities across the states had introduced diploma courses in the last three years, and the students who used to go out of state earlier are now pursuing diploma courses in the state. The main aim of the department is to increase GER to 32 by the year 2022.
A total number of 12 model degree colleges, 22 polytech colleges and many new colleges will be started from the academic session 2017-18.
