JIPMER to Start its Karaikal Branch from August End
Karaikal branch of the JIPMER will start from the end of August.
Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has opened its new college branch at the Karaikal District and will start with the operations from the month of August.
Initially, 50 students will be admitted for the MBBS course for the 2016-17 academic year. Karaikal District Collector P Parthiban also said that the starting of the college was being done under Government of Puducherry and Union Government’s assistance.

Also, the building structure for the classrooms, administrative office and library are complete, though laboratories are under construction. The college has also completed with the hostel buildings and the students can use the Karikal General Hospital till the time the institution gets hold of its permanent campus.For this, new facilities and equipments are being added to the Karikal General Hospital.
The government of Puducherry aims at making this campus as a center for excellence in medical education and has already allotted 78-acre land for the construction of the permanent campus.

Setting up of this new campus will not only bring change and improvement in the quality of education, but also in the health care needs of people in Karaikal district and neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu.
Currently, the institute is starting with 50 MBBS seats, out of which the Puducherry students can apply for 14 seats, rest of the seats fall under the All India quota.
