J&K Government to Set Up 16 New Degree Colleges

Education Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Altaf Bukhari announced that the state government has chalked out a detailed plan to set up 16 new degree colleges and upgrade 400 schools with a motive to enhance the education facilities in the state.

The government is aiming to fill the accessibility gap in specific areas, where students have to walk long distances to attend their classes. On the other hand, the government will upgrade a total number of 200 high schools to higher secondary level. Similarly, 200 middle schools will be upgraded to the high school level, informed the Education Minister.

Informing further, Altaf Bukhari mentioned that the new degree colleges will be established in the deserving areas such as RS Pura (Jammu) and Pahalgam (Kashmir), which are still lacking the facility of higher education. He appreciated the teaching faculty working in government and private sector for remaining dedicated and committed towards the cause of education despite constant turmoil in the Valley.

The government of Jammu & Kashmir has been taking many measures for the cause of education. Currently, the state government is in the process of digitalising the libraries across the state in a phased manner. Through this initiative, students can access over 1.5 digital books and journals.

The state government has also digitalised the government schools across the state through SMIS (School Management Information System). It is a unique database, which contains the complete database of government schools in the state. Along with SMIS, the government also launched GIS (Geographic Information System), which helps in the mapping of schools.
