J&K Govt. asks MHRD to set up 4 New Architecture and Nursing Colleges

The State Government of Jammu and Kashmir has proposed the establishment of two architecture and 2 nursing colleges in the state. The suggestion has been presented by Education Minister Altaf Bukhari in front of the HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

According to a senior official, the state was asked to draft an official proposal for the establishment of these four colleges. The official further added that the ministry assured Bukhari that they will give the proposal a positive consideration.

Bukhari along with his junior minister Priya Sethi, met with the Union HRD Minister and discussed the matter for an hour. During the meeting, the ministers also agreed to start various other education initiatives in the state.

The ministry has sanctioned two engineering colleges for the state at Kathua in Jammu and Safapora in Kashmir. Along with this, seven hostels for girl students have also been sanctioned in Bemina, Pulwama, Kupwara, Kargil, Thathri, Palora and Rajouri regions.

Rs. 200 crore will be rolled out by the HRD Ministry to release the pending salaries of teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Also, Rs. 34 crore have been approved by the ministry under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyaan.

The ministry is also providing assistance to start an off-campus IIM in the valley to motivate students of the valley and guide them towards management education. This will be an extension of the main IIM campus in Jammu that is currently operating from a temporary campus in Jammu.

Javadekar informed that the government of Jammu and Kashmir government has provided land for the off-campus IIM and a site survey team will be sent by the HRD Ministry to start the work.
