Due to the faulty and untimely disbursal of the scholarship money, a delegation of around 20 students from Jammu and Kashmir met Dr Jitendra Singh, Central Minister of State for DoNER (Independent Charge), MoS PMO, Personnel, Pensions, Public Grievances, Pensions and Atomic Energy and Space and appraised him of their problems and submitted a memorandum.

The delegation sought the intervention of the minister with regard to their issues and grievances under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).

Most of these students studying through different professional years in the University of Mewar said that they have been facing lots of discrepancies over the time for untimely and faulty disbursal of their scholarship money. Besides that they had also faced several other problems like the sudden and unexpected flood in the Kashmir Valley in 2014 and the series of violent clashes in 2016 that led to the closure of the educational institutes.

The students in their memorandum to the minister pointed out that due to non-disbursal of the scholarship money, they have been facing hardships, as a sizeable number of their students are from economically and socially backwards section, especially from the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.

The delegate of students also urged the minister to take up their cause with AICTE and with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD). They also urged to pursue the pending applications of scholarship so that these students can continue their studies in the universities they have been already admitted to. Due to the delay of the scholarship, these students have been facing lots of problems in their lodging and boarding, paying their tuition fees and purchasing of books etc.

The minister in return assured the student that on his part he would forward their cause to HRD Minister and discuss with him how to help them as soon as possible.
