JNTU Correspondence Degrees Validated
- On April 10, 2018, Supreme Court of India passed a judgement on April 10, 2018, making the distance B.Tech degrees awarded by JNTU between 1985 and 2010.
- It is a sigh of relief to over 10,000 graduates.
With an aim to cater the academic aspirations of engineering graduates from JNTU (Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University), the Supreme Court of India has validated all the B.Tech degrees awarded by JNTU in Correspondence cum Contact (CCC) mode. Only those candidates who obtained their B.Tech degrees from JNTU through CCC mode between 1985 and 2010 will be benefitted through the judgement of SC. However, the ban continues on the B.Tech degrees awarded by other universities in distance or CCC mode.

In January 2017, the High Court of Hyderabad passed a judgement that all the B.Tech degrees awarded by universities in distance mode or CCC are invalid. The move was taken to control the rise of distance education B.Tech courses offered by several private universities across the country. At the same time, the Supreme Court also upheld the decision of Hyderabad HC on imposing a ban of such degrees.

The decision that was taken in January 2017 by the court turned out to be a major setback for numerous candidates who obtained jobs on the basis of their distance B.Tech degrees. Over 150 alumni of JNTU staged a protest against the decision of HC earlier. They demanded the court to make their degrees valid, as their professional career was at stake due to the court’s move. Over 10,000 employees from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh became victims of the HC’s decision.
Finally, the Supreme Court of India passed a judgement on April 10, 2018, making the distance B.Tech degrees awarded by JNTU.
