JNU Authorities React to Media Reports on Reduction of Seats
Following the media report about massive reduction in admission intake, the University has come up with its own version of the report so as to dispel the doubts of the students.
Following the media reports that Jawaharlal Nehru University is about to undertake a massive reduction in admission intake, the University has come up with its own version of the report so as to dispel the doubts of the students.

The media reported that the University has reduced the number of seats in its different departments for the upcoming session. It further stated that the university has also reduced the number of seats for its M.Phil and Ph.D. courses.
Chintamani Mahapatra, Rector of the University said that no announcement from the side of the University has been made so far. No reduction has been done in the admission intake of the students. All the news circulated in the media about the reduction of the seats is totally false and misleading. But Mahapatra also added that the decision on this issue is pending.
As per the guidelines of UGC which recommends that maximum eight Ph.D. students be placed under a Professor, six for an Associated Professor and another three for an Assistant Professor. Similarly, the ratio for the M.Phil students and Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor is 3:2:1.
The University Students’ Union was conducting a referendum against the alleged decision of the University to bring changes in the admission procedure and also reduce the seats in different departments.

The Democratic Students’ Federation in a statement stated that the administration of the University has made it clear that they are all out to close admissions to the Ph.D./ M.Phil programmes.
