The administration of Jawaharlal Nehru University clarified that it will go ahead with the admission policy for Ph.D. and M.Phil programmes as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission. Rector of JNU, Mr. Chintamani Mahapatra announced that the whole issue was sub-judiced. However, the outcome is only based on the judgment of the High Court of Delhi.

Since the Delhi High Court did not impose any stay order on the implementation of academic process and entrance examinations, the varsity will conduct the entrance test and admission process as per the schedule. Giving clarity on the number of seats, the Rector of JNU said that the entrance test would take place for the number of seats mentioned as per the new admission policy.

The 143rd Academic Council meeting of Jawaharlal Nehru University took place on May 10, 2017. There was a wide protest by the student's unions near the venue against the confirmation of minutes in the 142nd Academic Council meet. The meeting took place for five hours and the Council focused on the confirmation of minutes of in 142nd Academic Council meeting.

After carrying out debates and discussions on the new admission policy, the Academic Council decided that the statements of those who opposed certain guidelines in the new admission policy would be recorded.

One of the officials of the varsity revealed that the Academic Council decided to carry out discussions on the further guidelines of new admission policy in the next Academic Council meet. However, the students’ union of JNU claimed that the 143rd Academic Council meet had not passed the admission policy as per the UGC notification. Students also pointed that the VC of JNU was trying to forge the minutes of 142nd Academic Council meet.
