JNU Launches New Move to Hold Exams through WhatsApp, Email
Students may either submit the answer scripts to course teachers through WhatsApp or share the images of the hand-written scripts through WhatsApp/email. He further said that those who can't submit the scripts on or before December 21, will be given another day for submission.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has introduced a new way to hold the end semester examinations through WhatsApp and email.
Dean Aswini K Mohapatra of School of International Studies (SIS) said that the decision was taken because of the extraordinary situation and the boycott by students to end semester examinations on campus. It claimed that the same after a meeting of the Vice-Chancellor and other officials with the other Deans of schools and Chairpersons of Special Centres. It is not yet sure if the step is going to apply to other Schools in the university.
He further said that the meeting held on December 16 had a consensus and that the end semester exam for PhD/MPhil and MA courses should be conducted in the academic interest of JNU students.

He further added that the question papers to the registered students of MPhil and MA programme will be sent after preparing the exam schedule as per the requirement and the students are requested to submit the answer scripts to the course teachers for evaluation. The last date to submit the examination script is December 21.

When asked if this step could ensure transparency and make sure that students do not cheat or verify, he replied that he is only worried about the future of the students of JNU. No other way can be executed for now.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) and JNU Teachers' Association (JNUTA) called the move "ludicrous" and "absurd". The JNUTA said that Professor Kumar is unfit to head the institute and this move cannot be a serious academic exercise. This move has not been decided through due process, added the JNUTA.
