JNU Introduces New Job-Oriented Course on Animal Welfare Science

Premier central university of the country Jawaharlal Nehru University is going to introduce a new Job oriented course on the development of animal welfare science as to provide skilled manpower in various sectors like -zoos, slaughterhouses, veterinary hospitals, municipalities and other related areas throughout the country.

The new course would be first conducted at the Ballabhgarh in Haryana campus of National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW).

The details of the course would be soon announced. On Wednesday the concerned official of JNU and NIAW have signed an agreement in the presence of Smriti Zubin Irani and Prakash Javadekar - the HRD minister and environment minister respectively.

Course Details-

In the first year, 200 students are supposed to be enrolled for the diploma and certificate courses that are going to be offered. The students after completion of the course would get the job in different sectors. While the total expenditure of the course is pegged at Rs 88 lakhs, sources from the environment ministry revealed.

“Several countries in the world, like New Zealand and Australia, have been already introduced such courses and keeping the pace with this country JNU is also introduced the new course. Our Ministry wants JNU to be an academic partner as to help NIAW in running the academic programme as per the need of the national and global parameters in this field of animal welfare,” said Javadekar while

All about NIAW -

Keeping in mind the demand of education and training animal welfare sector the Government had established NIAW. It was in 2005 NIAW introduced short term course on animal welfare and the course got lots of enthusiastic takers. Till now the institute has trained around 1000 personnel in different segments in animal welfare and all of them have been engaged in different sectors related to animal welfare.
