JNU Students Continue Hunger Strike Against New MBA Course Fee Structure

JNU students continue hunger strike against the introduction of the MBA course and its fee structure. However, the Vice-Chancellor said that the fee structure is the same as anywhere in India whether it is IIMs or IITs.

Students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University continued their hunger strike for the eighth day against the introduction of expensive MBA programme of the university.

Sarika Chaudhary, Vice President JNUSU informed that its the eighth day since the students are sitting on hunger strike against the expensive MBA course will be introduced from the upcoming academic year.

She informed that this management course introduced by the varsity has the highest fee structure. The cost of the course is Rs.12 lakh which is way higher than the fees of private colleges.

Whereas JNU Vice-ChancellorMamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that since the beginning students have been against the opening of management school in the university campus. Students are not willing to have a peaceful discussion regarding the same. He further informed that a large number of candidates from all over the country have applied for the programme.

According to him, the university has to expand its courses as per the global trends and they are following all the norms set by UGC. He further said that decision regarding the same was taken after various discussions and meetings with academic councils and executives.

Speaking about the fee structure of the management course, Kumar said the fees for the course is the same as institutes like IIMs and IITs of the country. The course will start from the upcoming academic session in July.

One of the other students from the university Aeijaz Ahmed said that they have been sitting for the hunger strike since eight days but the administration and the VC have not taken any initiative regarding the matter or to talk to the students.
