According to the latest comments by the teachers’ association of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) on October 13, the university claimed to have not rejected any courses. Unlike the recent statement of the teachers association, the student union said that the varsity rejected the proposal to introduce certificate courses in yoga and Indian culture.

The JNU Students’ Union had said that the decision-making body of the university, i.e the academic council rejected the proposal to introduce short-term courses in yoga and Indian culture with a majority.

About the same, the teachers association responded completely opposite and explained that the proposal for the academic courses was accepted by the academic council. Certificate course in computational linguistics, yoga philosophy and Indian culture were approved.

JNUTA further clarified that though the courses were discussed in the meeting so that they can be improved with the help of the suggestions, they were never rejected by the council.

JNUSU said that despite the protests from students outside the AC meeting venue, the proposal was rejected.

Further, the actual status of these courses has not been declared yet by JNU.

In order to propagate culture in educational campuses and to promote India’s rich heritage, the proposal for the three short-term courses was sent to JNU.

Last year JNU asked for feedback regarding the same from its various schools and departments. In the month of November, the proposal was rejected by the Academic Council.

Next year, in the month of May, the case was opened again and was reconsidered. Various departments reworked on the same proposals and placed the same before the council.
