JNU to Reduce M.Phil & Ph.D. Seats, Scraps Fresh Admissions
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced that the number of seats in M.Phil & Ph.D. course will be reduced and the varsity has also scrapped the fresh admission process.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced that the number of seats in M.Phil & Ph.D. course will be reduced and the varsity has also scrapped the fresh admission process for the next academic session in some departments.
According to the information given by University Evaluation Branch, School of International Studies (SIS) has reduced 141 seats, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies has reduced 73 seats followed by School of Social Sciences (SSS) with 232 seats. The current strength of SIS is 232; SSS is 330 and School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies is 227.

The following departments will not have fresh admissions this year: -
- Centre for Media Studies
- Centre for Study of Discrimination and Exclusion
- Centre for Indo-Pacific Studies
- Centre for East African Studies
- Centre for African Studies

The officials of the varsity indicated that the intake has been reduced as per the prescribed norms. However, students allege that the varsity has not taken permission from the statutory bodies in this regard.
