JoSAA 2017: Only One Seat Left Vacant in IITs after Round 3
- According to sources, only one seat remained vacant under ST category in Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIT Bhubaneswar).
- JoSAA has filled a total number of 10,988 seats in 23 IITs across the country.
JoSAA has successfully completed the Round 3 seat allotment process for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Only one seat remained vacant in an IIT after the third round i.e. under the ST category in Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIT Bhubaneswar), according to sources. The vacant seat will be carried forward to the next round of counselling process. Last year, around 76 seats remained vacant after the three rounds of the admission process. JoSAA has filled a total number of 10,988 seats in 23 IITs across the country.

Further, only 399 seats remain vacant in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs after the third round which will be filled up in the subsequent rounds. JoSAA has released the fourth round seat allotment on July 13, 2017.
This year, JoSAA is scheduled to conduct seven rounds of seat allotment to ensure zero vacancies. Last year, there were only six rounds while only two rounds in 2015. The authorities are expecting that there will be no need for seven rounds of seat allotment this year as the vacant seats are expected to be filled by fourth or fifth round.

After the second round of seat allotment, around 3,200 seats remained vacant in NITs, IITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Out of 3,200 seats, 68 seats remained vacant in IITs including Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad. Compared to the previous year, the seats are filling in at fast pace this year.
