Plea Filed in Karnataka High Court to Postpone KCET 2020, Final Decision Taken to Conduct Exam

A Plea has been filed in Karnataka High Court by NSUI to postpone KCET 2020 scheduled on July 30 & 31. The court took up the hearing on July 29, 2020, and approved the decision to conduct the exam.

While KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) is all set to hold KCET 2020 on July 30 & 31, there have been demands from students and parents to postpone the entrance exam. NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) has filed a plea in Karnataka High Court to postpone KCET 2020 exam. NSUI has indicated that the exam has to be postponed considering students’ health and safety. The union has sought the intervention of the High Court in this regard and postpone the exam. However, the court clarified that the entrance exam will be conducted as per the schedule.

High Court Hearing on KCET 2020 Postponement

The High Court of Karnataka has taken up the hearing on July 28, 2020. The High Court has directed the state government to reconsider its decision of holding the entrance exam. The state government will submit its final decision to the court on July 29, 2020.  There was also a plea on the cancellation of the exam.

A few days back, the Health Ministry has released the SOPs for students appearing for KCET exam. Covid-19 positive candidates were also allowed to take the exam with special permission and safety measures. The government has made all the arrangements to conduct the exam as per the schedule.

With the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, parents and students are worried to attend the exam. On the other hand, it is no safe to travel amid this pandemic.

Recently, Kerala government conducted KEAM 2020 exam with all safety measures. Even though the exam was successfully conducted, social distancing norms were flouted after the conclusion of the exam as a result of which some of the students have been tested positive.
