Karnataka State Open University (KSOU): Students Skip BBA & BA Exam

In the recently conducted Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) exam, only one student turned up to write the paper for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course. Whereas for the BA in Political Science exam even not a single student turned up to take the exam. Both the examinations had been scheduled by the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) on the same day, and hence has caught the attention of student community.

The university authority of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) had been preparing to conduct the exam since the past couple of months, with the help of a PG centre based in Chennai. Around twenty-six students, affiliated with the Bharath Postgraduate College PG Centre, Chennai were to take part in the examination. Out of the twenty-six students, only one student appeared for the examination.
This is after the exam had been the subject of a legal tussle. Last year, in the month of June, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science had been de-recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). But the High Court of Madras had directed to hold examinations for those students who were already admitted to the course. The court also directed the university to hold all other examinations of the programmes and courses, as per schedule.

Around 7,500 students are affiliated with the PG centre. Since students were from Tamil Nadu and the varsity was bound to conduct the exam in the state after the UGC raised the objection to territorial jurisdiction. The exams are scheduled to be held from 16 November 2016 and continue till 30th November 2016.
