The stay on conducting new PSI recruitment exams has been extended till October 19 by the Karnataka High Court. Here are the new updates.
Stay Extended on Conducting New PSI Exams till October 19: The Karnataka High Court has extended the stay order on the conduction of recruitment exams for 545 posts of police sub-inspectors (PSI). This stay order has been extended till 19th October 2022 until the court completes the hearing of the petitioners. The Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court announced the extension of this stay and added that this case will proceed on high priority.
The conduction of new PSI recruitment exams will remain on stay until the court removes this order.
Why Stay on PSI Recruitment Exam?
After a large-scale scam came into the limelight for the PSI recruitment process in 2022, the government of Karnataka announced that they will reschedule the exam. However, it didn’t go well with the applicants and several of them filed petitions in the Karnataka High Court to intervene.
Some of the shortlisted candidates who were selected in the cancelled exam approached the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) against this decision of Retest. The tribunal however rejected their requests. Therefore, the candidates proceeded to apply in the Karnataka High Court and filed a petition and gave the reason that they should not bear the loss due to the scam as they have cleared the examination on their merit and hard work. The High court hence intervened in the matter and ordered a Stay on the decision of conducting any new recruitment examination for PSI posts on 28th September 2022. This interim order was extended on till 19th October 2022 today by the honourable High Court. The stay has been extended as one of the Advocates representing the petitioners could not attend the hearing due to illness. The high court clarified that it will not allow the government to proceed with a fresh examination until the hearing is concluded.
