Kathmandu University Confers Honorary Degree on President Pranab Mukherjee
He congratulated the university for completing 25 years and celebrating Silver Jubilee year.
The Kathmandu University has conferred prestigious Honorary Doctorate on Shri. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India on November 3, 2016. On this occasion, Pranab Mukherjee thanked Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shreshtha, Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Senate Members and Faculty of the Kathmandu University for conferring Honorary Doctorate. He expressed his happiness by saying that he would deeply value this gesture of friendship.
He congratulated the university for completing 25 years and celebrating its silver jubilee this year. Kathmandu University has been established as a focal point of higher learning in Nepal. The varsity offers academic courses in engineering, medicine, law, humanities, management and science. He mentioned that the university has many accomplishments and attracts talented students from Nepal and its neighbourhood. So far, the university has been successful in achieving academic excellence by imparting quality education and learning skills.

President Pranab Mukherjee said that there is a need to build world-class universities. He cited that there are many renowned universities like Nalanda and Takshashila in India which attract mighty minds from across the world. He also revealed that the universities in the region have talented students and faculty and still there exists a gap in global rankings. More emphasis has to be laid on research and innovation to boost global rankings. He appreciated the efforts of the university as it has been giving more emphasis to research and innovation.
Currently, the HRD Ministry has been taking extensive steps to boost global rankings for premier institutes. For this purpose, the ministry is planning to invite international students and faculty to IITs & IIMs.
