Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to Setup 20 Mini Fab Labs in Engineering Colleges
C. Jayasankar Prasad, CEO of KSUM revealed that their primary motive is to create a bunch of people who are good in prototyping, designing and developing stuff on their own.
KSUM or Kerala Startup Mission will set up a total number of 20 mini Fab labs in the engineering colleges which are affiliated to Dr. Abdul Kalam Technological University or KTU. In the first phase, a total number of 20 mini Fab Labs will be set up by the last week of March, and in the second phase, a total number of 50 Fab Labs will be established within six months.
According to sources, mini Fab Labs will come into effect by the end of February as KSUM has already placed the orders. Graduates from Kerala Fab Academy will be sent to Fab Labs in various colleges, and the Academy has trained 20 faculty members who will act as in charge of these labs.

Kerala Fab Academy is a world-class institute which was hosted in Kerala by Fab Labs in Trivandrum and Kochi. A total number of 16 students graduated last year from the Academy, and they are eligible to become instructors.

Fab Lab which is also popularly known as Fabrication Laboratory plays a significant role in developing digital fabrication with the help of cutting-edge machines and equipment.
Jayasankar Prasad further explained that Fab Labs will also come up in various universities apart from KTU, arts and science colleges as well as polytechnic colleges. The government will incur the entire cost of setting up Fab Labs in government colleges whereas the government will bear 50% or 25% of the total cost for setting up of Fab Labs in private or aided colleges.
