KIIT Convocation Address Delivered by Nobel Laureate Richard John Roberts
KIIT University honored Richard John Roberts, Nobel laureate in physiology or medicine (1993) with honoris causa (honorary degrees) of DSc and Chairman of Wockhardt Group, Habil Khorakiwala with DLit.
The 12th annual convocation of KIIT University was organized on Saturday, November 12, 2016. A total of 5047 students who graduated in the session 2015-16 were awarded their degrees by the university. The university honored Richard John Roberts, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (1993) with honoris causa (honorary degrees) of DSc and Chairman of Wockhardt Group, Habil Khorakiwala with DLit.

The Nobel Laureate delivered the convocation address and told the students to determine a goal and work towards it with focus and dedication. He also told the students to level the opportunities given to them carefully.
Although Sir Roberts was from a poor background, he was given the opportunity to study. With time he developed an interest in chemistry and mathematics that one day led him to win the Nobel Prize (1993) in the field of physiology or medicine. He discovered the splitting of genes and mRNA splicing in 1977.
N. L. Mitra, Chancellor of KIIT University, gave his best wishes to the graduate students and told them that they are the ambassadors of the University regardless of where they work. He told the students that their reputation at a place of work matters a lot and as it represents the university.

Vice-chancellor P. P. Mathur also spoke on the occasion and said that the university aims to promote research initiatives by garnering funds from several national and international funding agencies. 700 research papers have been published by the faculty members and research students of the university. Also, in 2015, over 300 papers were presented at conferences across the globe.
