Kiran Bedi: RIVER should be made Constituent Institution of a University

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi suggested that the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER) should be made a constituent college of a university. Bedi made the suggestion on Tuesday, November 22, and added that doing so will enable the institute to get funds from Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

Bedi addressed the students and staff of RIVER and said that getting funds is essential for the institute for which it has to become a constituent college of ICAR. The funds gained by the association will help the institute in promoting research and start development works.

According to a release from the office of Lt Governor, Bedi talked to the authorities of the institute and said that currently, they have limited grants and with the help of which they can only meet the ends of recurring expenditure. She further urged the institute to generate its own resources by co-opting students and faculty.

After listening to the power point presentation designed made by the principal, the Lt Governor also said that lack of resources should be taken care of and this should be the priority of the institute.

Another one of Bedi’s task was to visit the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Krishi Vigyan Kendra and find out all about the activities of the center. She talked to the administration of the Kendra and asked them to work on the lines of developing organic farming and work in collaboration with Swachchtha Corporation and municipalities to increase compost production which can be utilized by farmers.
