KPMG International Case Competition 2016 won by IIM-A

At the KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) national finals that were held in Delhi on March 05, 2016, the team IIM Ahmedabad were declared the winners. The case studies were on the aviation sector while focusing on chalking out a long term strategy for an airline that had lost market share and was also challenged on profitability.

The team IIM Ahmedabad comprised of four students B Ramachandran, Rajaram Suresh, Manu Gulati and Riya Gupta. This team showed a good understanding of the sector and in the opinion of the jury members their recommendations would make a positive impact on the financial and operational health of a firm.

The winning team was awarded with a trophy and a prize money of Rs 100,000. This team would now compete for the global finale in Dubai in April 2016 with 22 teams from other countries.

There were three rounds in the competition with increasing levels of difficulty as well as elimination in each round. In the final round the teams were asked to put together a detailed action plan in order to implement the strategy espoused by them in the earlier rounds.

More than 2000 students from 11 Indian business schools competed for the award. The schools that participated were IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, S P Jain Mumbai, XLRI Jamshedpur and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. The first and second runners-up positions were bagged by ISB Hyderabad and XLRI Jamshedpur respectively.

The case-study based experiential learning for the students truly came alive with understanding the sector through first hand experiences.”
