KSOU Holds Convocation after a Gap of 4 Years

Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) held a convocation after a gap of four years. KSOU was de-recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in June. Since gaining recognition all over again for a period of 5 years from UGC this year, KSOU has held its convocation ceremony for 17,512 students.

KSOU held its previous convocation in March 2015. The students from the batch of 2012-13 were called to receive their degrees after a gap of four years. Out of the 17,512 students who have received their degrees this year, more than 12,000 students were females and the rest were male students. In total, ten candidates were awarded Ph.D and seven gold medals along with 8 cash prizes as well.

Director of NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) S.C. Sharma delivered the convocation speech to the students and G.T. Deve Gowda, Minister of Higher Education, presided over the event. However, around 1500 people, out which about a thousand were students and the rest were family members, had attended the ceremony.

The admission into the Karnataka State Open University has already begun. The students have already taken admission into courses like MBA and B.Ed. KSOU sent a proposal to UGC in order to start other courses like BSW, PCM, BCA, BBA, etc.

Meanwhile, KSOU has also offered to provide the wife of a Martyred Jawan from the Pulwama Attack, free education. Kalavathi, the wife of Guru had applied for admission in post-graduate degree in Political science. The university took note of it and offered her free education to the martyred jawan’s wife, said the Vice-Chancellor D-Shivalingaiah.
