Lack of Foreign Students and Faculty is the Reason Behind Bad Rankings: Experts
Only two of the Indian Institutes of Technology managed to get ranks in the top 200 of QS Ranking.
If you consider the latest rankings that have been given to the Indian Universities, then you will realise that India is not doing really good at an international level. Experts and notable academicians say that there is a major need for revamping the Indian education system if we want to be globally known. According to the latest QS rankings, only two of the Indian Institutes of Technology managed to get ranks in the top 200 and following are their names. On the other hand, the pride and joy of India - University of Delhi could not even manage to get a rank in the top 500 institutes.
The experts say that the biggest reason for this is the low number of foreign students and foreign faculty in our institutes. These are the two sections in which Indian institutes or universities usually get a zero. And factors like shortage of staff and lack of funds only adds to the problem. Experts also say that in India preference is always given to the domestic student. Even the state seats are always reserved for students belonging to that particular state.

But since the last few years, India is trying to be a better for example. Starting next year, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will be conducted in five different countries so the IITs and the NITs can attract the maximum number of foreign students. The IITs have come up with new plans that will help attract foreign faculty too.
Some experts believe that the guidelines of these rankings are according to the western education system and that is why India has not been able to do good. Nonetheless, it is time to take education and educational institutes in India seriously.
