Lalu Prasad Yadav, Chief of Rashtriya Janata Dal said in a statement on Thursday, July 28 that 80 per cent seats in educational institutes as well as jobs in the state of Bihar, should be reserved for the residents of Bihar, in the similar trend that the other states are following.

Supporting his demands regarding the reservation, Mr. Prasad said that Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Kerala are also among the other states that provide reservation to the state based candidates. Following examples, Bihar must also have 80% reservation in the spheres of jobs and education, added the RJD Chief.

He also stated that he will have a discussion regarding the same with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Mr. Prasad also added that it is because of the lack of higher education institutions in Bihar that the youth is leaving the state and migrating to other states in search of education and since there is reservation in other states, students from Bihar fail to find jobs in other states.

Since Bihar doesn’t have any such provision, candidates from other states benefit in the state more than the residents. His claim with an example and said that in an examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission for the post of Assistant Professor of English, most of the applicants were from other states.

He also mentioned that each state has their own patterns of exams in schools and colleges and Students from Bihar are at a disadvantage in such exams hence that state’s residents walk away with the advantage.

Residents of Bihar have been largely accused of walking away with jobs in states like Maharashtra especially people who belong to the migrant labour classes.
