LIBA Chennai Students Bag 3rd Position at UK-India Social Innovation Challenge 2017

Students of Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai made a remarkable achievement by winning the third spot in UK-India Social Innovation Challenge 2017. The students bagged the third prize for their outstanding project on providing clean water to villages affected by fluoride contamination.
UK-India Social Entrepreneurship Education Network conducted the challenge. Students from various universities in the United Kingdom and India took part in the competition. The participants submitted altogether 50 projects. Out of the 50 projects, eight Indian projects were selected among the top 10.

The purpose of conducting the challenge was to create a business model for a social enterprise that could tackle the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal - 6. The sixth goal of UN for the sustainable development is clean water and sanitation.
Clarie Scott from Cranfield University bagged the first prize in the challenge. The name of her project was BCD Egg. The objective of the project was to mitigate the risk of using unsafe drinking water. Alexandre Beradshall from the University of Southampton stood as the runner-up. His project was ‘Jumanji’, which focussed on providing a reliable source of fish and water through solar distillation. The project will benefit the people of Malawi and Kenya.

The UK-India Social Entrepreneurship Education Network awarded a cash prize to the first, second and third prize winners. The first prizewinner, Clarie Scott will also receive a six-month fellowship from the members of CII or Confederation of Indian Industry.
The project of Loyola School of Business Administration focused on two solutions. The first solution was providing non-fluoridated water for irrigational and agricultural purposes. The second solution is to provide domestic water filter based solutions. Chennai Water Board also supported the students for carrying out this project.
