Bombay HC Hearing on JEE Main 2023: The High Court of Bombay has taken up and concluded the hearing on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Aunbha Srivastava Sahai seeking the postponement of JEE Main 2023 Session 1 exam and relaxation of 75% marks criteria. The High Court took up the hearing on January 4, 2023, and to give the petitioner the time to file the exam's brochure on record, the next hearing date has been scheduled to January 10, 2023.

    The petitioner has asked to shift the hearing date to Monday as the registrations are closing on January 12. ACJ told the petitioner that they should have initially filed the case with the brochure. The next hearing date will remain January 10.

    On behalf of the NTA, Adv. Rui Rodriguez clarified that 75% marks criteria is for the board exams, and for admissions into the institutes, not for appearing for JEE Main 2023. The petitioner's counsel argues that, if admission cannot be taken without the 75% criteria, what is the point in taking the exam?

    In turn, the Acting Chief Justice asks to present the brochure of JEE Main 2023. Adv. Rodriguez says that the petition is deficient and that the petitioner has not filed for the rules that they are challenging. Petitioner seeks time to file the brochure on record.

    Bombay HC Hearing on JEE Main 2023: Why postponement is demanded?

    There are multiple reasons as to why the students are demanding the postponement of JEE Main 2023 exam. The reasons listed in JEE Main 2023 Bombay High Court case are as follows:

    • JEE Main 2023 Session 1 clashes with pre-boards and practical examinations. CBSE practicals are from January 02 to February 14. JEE Main January attempt is from January 24 to 31.

    • The notification for the exam was released 40 days when it is ideally 3 to 4 months as per the pre-pandemic schedules.

    • The counselling of the previous year extended until the first week of November, thus giving only 78 days for repeater students to study.
