Lucknow University Students to Rate & Provide Feedback on Faculty Performance in Class

Lucknow University students will soon be able to evaluate their teachers, as the university has come up with a format allowing the students to evaluate their classroom experience.

The University has initiated the process of getting the feedback from the students about the faculty members – a move that aims at imparting quality education and improving the standard of the education.

An official of the University said that the idea is to find out what students think about what they are taught. The University is developing a system with a set of questions and these questions will be distributed among the students. The students will then rate their teachers based on the same.

NK Pandey, spokesperson of Lucknow University said that a pro forma has also been circulated to the heads of all departments so that the monthly activity and progress report of the departments can be compiled.

Through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the university will start the process of obtaining students’ feedback about the faculty of the University engaged in teaching. Most students are eagerly waiting for the idea to take a concrete shape. A B.A first year student said that it will help students and teachers develop a mutually respectful relationship towards each other and further improve the teaching environment of the class.

Dinesh Kumar, President of the LU Teachers’ Association argued that students who are regular in the class and with 75% attendance should only be allowed to evaluate the teachers. If the students are not regular in the class, they may not be able to judge the teachers in a fair manner. Most the teachers have expressed their satisfaction over the decision of the University.
