Granting a relief to NEET-UG 2018 examinees who took the exam in the Tamil language, the High Court of Madras has directed CBSE to award 196 marks to compensate 49 translation errors in the Tamil medium question paper of NEET-UG 2018. An official order was issued by the court in this regard on July 10, 2018.

Justices AM Basheer Ahmed and CT Selvam of the Madurai Bench of Madras HC also directed CBSE to publish revised NEET-UG merit list of the candidates. The NEET-UG counselling process is underway in Tamil Nadu and it is up to the authorities to decide on the counselling process as per the revised merit list, clarified the court.

The petition on the translation errors in Tamil question paper of NEET was filed by CPI (M) Leader, Mr. TK Rangarajan. The petition sought full marks for 49 questions (4 marks for each question), alleging that several keywords in Tamil paper were wrongly translated from the English language.

Responding to the petition, the court stated that NEET-UG Tamil examinees must be suitably compensated to provide a legal-playing ground.

The petitioner indicated that the translation errors occurred due to the outsourcing concept followed by CBSE.
