Madras HC Stays Order on Revised JEE Advanced 2018 Rank List, IIT Admissions to Resume
JoSAA Round 3 counselling process that has been delayed, is expected to begin soon. The High Court of Madras has imposed a stay on the order issued IIT Kanpur to revise the rank list of JEE Advanced 2018 exam.
On July 10, 2018, the High Court of Madras has granted relief to IIT Kanpur by ordering a stay on the release of revised JEE rank list for the admission to IITs. The court felt that there is no need for a separate rank list as the evaluation process was over.
What did the Madras High Court Order Earlier?
IIT Kanpur, the authority of JEE Advanced 2018 has delayed the JoSAA Round 3 2018 counselling process after the Madras High Court passed an order with regards to a writ petition filed in the court. The certificate verification and counselling process scheduled for July 07 and July 08, 2018 had been postponed. Until further orders, the admission authority will not restart the admission process.
On July 06, 2018, the High Court of Madras ordered IIT Kanpur to revise the rank list of JEE Advanced 2018 exam. With the latest decision of HC, students who secured a seat in the first and second round seat allotment are nervous, as their allotment would become invalid. However, the admission authority has requested the students to stay calm. IIT Kanpur has filed an appeal at the divisional bench of the court in this regard.

On July 02, 2018, the High Court of Madras gave a direction on the petition filed by Lakshmi Shree. The petitioner was represented by her father who sought a direction to quash the clarification issued by IIT Kanpur against its original instructions issued during JEE Advanced 2018 exam.

After hearing the arguments, Justice S Vaidyanathan indicated that the candidates who assigned numerical values as answers (as per the original instructions) must give preference to those who also gave correct answers by rounding off the numerical values to one decimal place or without a decimal notion. The preference given by IIT in this regard will not affect the number of candidates selected for the admission. Instead, the preference will affect the ranking of the candidates. Therefore, IIT Kanpur must redo the rank list, ordered the judge.
