A complaint has been risen against the Tamil Nadu government stating that they have been employing teachers who do not even meet the eligibility criteria for the positions. Reviewing the petition that had been raised by various people, the Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu to follow the norms that have been set the University Grants Commission when appointing assistant professors in government colleges.

During a session, Justice S M Subramaniam from the Madurai Bench has stated that any encroachment on the UGC norms or the incorrect implementations of the norm will directly lead to serious action being taken against the officials who took part in the act. He stated that such actions that have been taken by the responsible people will be looked into with serious motives and they will be punished with disciplinary action being taken against them for not implementing the norms.

The court stated that the Tamil Nadu government should be ensuring that all the selection of the teachers as well as their appointments should be made as per the rules and regulations as stated the University of Grants. The court also added that the state needs to comply with the rules and statutes that have been put in place by the government as well along with the UGC norms.
