The council mentioned that the colleges would be granted recognition if they fulfil the norms by September 5, 2016.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has given a sigh of relief to four law colleges of Maharashtra to admit students in the current academic session. However, these colleges have to follow certain norms prescribed by BCI within the stipulated time.
The following law colleges in Mumbai have been given permission to admit the students:-
These colleges are allowed to admit students after paying the penalty imposed by Legal Education Committee (LEC) for the non-fulfillment of norms. The committee has also imposed a fine on 10 more law colleges functioning under the University of Mumbai. Earlier, the Council had derecognised around 40 law colleges in Maharashtra as they did not satisfy the prescribed norms with the inadequacy of staff and infrastructure. The council has said that these 40 colleges have been in the non-admission list for the past three years.
