After the six rounds of law admissions, around 10,000 seats in the three-year and five-year law courses across Maharashtra may remain vacant in this year of 2016. The Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell of Maharashtra will appeal to the Exam Regulatory Authority on 23rd November 2016 (Wednesday) to hold an additional round of admissions to accommodate more students for the vacant seats.

Number of vacant seats so far:

  • 4,555 seats in three-year law courses
  • 6,367 in five-year courses

At at time when there are so many vacant seats, there are several aspirants who were not awarded seats. These aspirants had demanded an additional round for their admissions. Chandrashekhar Oak, CET Cell Commissioner said that following demands from aspirants, they have decided to appeal to the Exam Regulatory Authority to hold an additional round of admission.

But at the same time, he also said that the move would not yield a result. He said that the final decision lies with the Exam Regulatory Authority and it may not rule in the favour of the aspirants. If the date was to be extended further those admitted will not be able to complete their mandatory 90-day academic duration before the final examination.

The commissioner further disclosed that the colleges in Mumbai had the most demand but there are few vacant seats there. There are more vacant seats in rural areas. In the sixth round, they have asked aspirants to fill their preferences carefully.

But contrary to the claims of the commissioner Oak several aspirants have, however, claimed that seats are vacant in many Mumbai colleges too. The students approached the Students Law Council, which wrote to the CET Cell demanding an additional round of admissions.
