Maharashtra: Governor Constitutes Committee to Select YCMOU Vice Chancellor
Justice Mohit Shah, retired Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, is the Chairman of the panel.
Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor, Maharashtra Universities has constituted a search committee to select a new Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU).
Justice Mohit Shah, retired Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, is the Chairman of the panel. The other members of the panel include Prof. Ajay Kumar, Director at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Delhi and Sitaram Kunte, Principal Secretary of State Higher and Technical Education Department.

The post of Vice-Chancellor at YCMOU has been vacant since August 19, 2016, following the resignation of Prof. MM. Salunkhe. Currently, Dr. Dilip Mahisekar, VC of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has been holding the responsibility as VC to YCMOU.
Salunkhe took charge as Vice-Chancellor of YCMOU in August 2014 and had abruptly resigned even before the completion of two years of his tenure. However, he did not specify the reason behind his resignation.

YCMOU, a Nasik-based university was established on July 1, 1989, and the had been named after Yashwantrao Chavan, a great political leader and architect of modern Maharashtra. The university offers various UG, PG, Certificate, Diploma and Doctoral programmes. The curriculum of the varsity resembles academic programmes offered by other universities. The vision of the varsity is to develop an innovative, flexible and open system of education. The varsity has an extensive network of study centres with a scientific system of student evaluation and special attention to quality.
