Maharashtra NMMS Scholarship 2024: The NMMS scholarship, officially known as the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), is a crucial scheme for academically talented students who belong to low-income households and are at a financial disadvantage. It seeks to minimize dropout rates of those students completing Class 8 and motivate them to undertake education at the secondary level. The scholarship provides Rs 12,000/- annually (Rs 1,000/- per month) to all qualified students. The scholarship amount will directly be wired by the Maharashtra Government to the bank accounts of the eligible students, thereby helping the students continue their studies.
NMMS exam is conducted offline and the administration is taken by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) for students currently studying in Class 8 in government, government-aided, or local body schools. Students with a minimum mark of 55% in their class 7th exams (with 5% relaxation for SC/ ST students) and a family income less than Rs 3.5 lakhs per annum are eligible to appear for the NMMS scholarship 2024.

Maharashtra NMMS Scholarship 2024: Reimbursement Amount
Students with family income under Rs 3,50,00/- of the Maharashtra state are supported by the MHRD through the NMMS scholarship scheme where the meritorious eligible students of Maharashtra will get Rs 1,000/- per month directly sent into their bank account through wire transfer for a year making it up to Rs 12,000/- per annum. This scholarship amount is provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to support such student's further education beginning from class 8th.

Maharashtra NMMS Scholarship 2024: Eligibility Criteria
Here are the crucial eligibility criteria for the Maharashtra NMMS scholarship 2024:
Regular students or students studying in Class 8th in any Government, Government-aided, Local Self-Government Institution of Maharashtra State subject to the conditions given as follows can appear for the NMMS examination to achieve the scholarship.
Parents' income of both father and mother should not exceed Rs 3,50,000 per annum. In the case of employed parents, they submit their income certificate of the head of their establishment, or of Tehsildars/ Talathas for the financial year 2023-24 to the Principal of the school. The principal must keep the said income certificate in the school as a record.
Students should have passed class 7th with a minimum of 55% marks (SC/ ST student should have passed the examination with at least 50% marks).
The students from the below category may appear for the said examination but excluded from the scholarship:
- Students of unaided schools
- Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya
- Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya students.
- Students benefiting from government hostels, concessions, catering and educational facilities.
- Military school students
The students’ capabilities and merit for allocation of NMMS scholarship are assessed on the basis of their performance in a two-stage examination, comprising a Mental Ability Test (MAT) and a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which together rate the student’s performance. It is not just financial support but also meant to eliminate educational inequality between underprivileged students in Maharashtra.
