The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, said on 16th October 2019, Wednesday, that his government is strongly committed to the welfare of the society and all of its sections. Fadnavis also referred to a scheme in the BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) manifesto which declares that the students belonging to the open or unreserved category will be given scholarships for studying abroad.

Devendra Fadnavis was addressing an election rally on Wednesday in Nagpur South-West, which is his assembly constituency. While addressing the rally, he said that the students of the open category will not suffer because of the reservation provided in educational institutions for the candidates who come from certain disadvantaged social groups.

He said that in the BJP manifesto, apart from the introduction of several welfare schemes for benefitting all sections of the society, the political party has also formulated schemes for the students who hail to the open category and do not get any reservations. Fadnavis further added that the same number of seats will be allotted for the open category candidates as it was prior to the year 2018 in which the Maratha quota was implemented. The total number of seats will be increased and restored in many institutions to the pre-quota level.

Fadnavis is seeking re-election from South-West Nagpur in the assembly polls that will be held on 21st October 2019, Monday.

The Chief Minister also told that the BJP manifesto that was released on 15th October 2019, Tuesday, also promises to establish a financial development corporation for the students of open category. The corporation will be named Arthikvikas Mahamandal and it will be solely for providing financial assistance to the unreserved students. Fadnavis also revealed that this corporation will also enable students to avail scholarships through which they can pursue their higher studies in the various foreign universities.
