Malaysian University Collaborates with NIA to Popularise Ayurveda
A Malaysia-based private university has signed a MoU with Jaipur- based India’s National Institute of Ayurveda to enhance cooperation in research.
The popularity of Indian Ayurvedic medicine is spreading beyond the boundaries of the country. People of other countries have started recognising the values of Ayurvedic medicine. A Malaysia-based private university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jaipur- based India’s National Institute of Ayurveda to enhance cooperation in research. It also plans to popularize Ayurvedic medicine in their country.

A statement released from Indian High Commission in Malaysia said that the MoU was signed by Sanjeev Sharma, Director of NIA and Ling Liong Sik, Council Chairman of Malaysia’s Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
Under the MoU, NIA would assist UTAR in starting a faculty of Ayurveda that will offer full-fledged Master's and Bachelor's degree programmes for Ayurveda in Malaysia.
Already Malaysia and India have a strong collaboration in the field of complementary and traditional medicine. The two countries, at the governmental level, have set up a bilateral technical commission that meets annually. Departments involved from both the countries are -
- Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India
- Ministry of Health, Malaysia
India has also sent two therapists and an Ayurveda doctor to Malaysia’s Ministry of Health. A Siddha doctor is also supposed to arrive in Malaysia soon.

In a friendly gesture, India has gifted two ‘Shirodhara’ machines to this leading east Asian country whose culture and tradition is similar to India. Every year the Government of India offers 20 scholarships to students of Malaysia to study bachelor's degree courses in Ayurveda and other traditional and complementary medicine programmes in India. The number of aspirants applying for the programme has gone up over the years. The University of Malaysia in association with High Commission of India brought out a bilingual book in Bahasa Malaya and English in 2015 titled ‘Ayurveda: Science and Practice'.
