Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANNU) has now been authorized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to run five programmes namely B.A.; BSc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics); BSc (Chemistry, Botany, Zoology) and M.A in Urdu, English, History and Islamic studies through distance education mode. This move is going to benefit thousands of aspiring students.
The university has also been allowed to offer the B.Ed. course once it gets the approval from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) from the session 2015-16 onwards. This move was in response to the persistent efforts by the Vice chancellor of the university Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz.
These courses are in addition to the ones that have been allotted by the UGC to university according to a letter by the UGC to MANNU. The courses already allotted are M.A. Urdu, English; Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication; Diploma in Teaching English, Certificate Course in Proficiency in Urdu through English and Certificate Course in Functional English.
The letter also stated that the Distance Education Committee of UGC that met in last November had disapproved some programmes as referred by the expert committee in September 2011 as these programmes were not offered through regular mode. Now the university has been allowed to run these courses as “Now, the University has informed that these programmes are being offered through regular mode.”
MANNU’s distance education programme is one of the most popular education programmes in the country and Directorate of Distance Education of MANNU has approximately 50,000 students on its roll, most of whom are girls and women.
