Many Professors of Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Yet to be Made Permanent
According to sources, around 20 professors who were recruited between the years 2004 and 2014 have been waiting to be made permanent at Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU).
Most of the professors who have been working under Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) are still serving as temporary faculty even though they have completed their two-year terms. According to the guidelines, if a professor serves for two years, his/ her position must be made permanent. On the other hand, most of the Assistant and Associate Professors are looking forward to the implementation of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

According to sources, around 20 professors who were recruited in the year 2004 and 2014 have been waiting for the orders. They have made several representations to the authorities, but the concerning authorities neither responded nor took a step. It is tough to fix the seniority of professors unless the order is implemented. Currently, the varsity has an academic staff of 45 people.
According to the rules of the government, if the concerning authority does not issue an order within the six months from the date the candidate had completed his probation, the probationer must be termed as satisfactorily completed his/ her probation.

One of the professors revealed that due to a peculiar rule, that was enforced on March 23, 2016 most of the professors were assigned non-academic responsibilities like replying to the petitions filed under RTI, housekeeping, managing office vehicles and acting as personal assistants to Registrar and VC.
According to the Supreme Court's order, assigning non-academic duties to teachers is unconstitutional. The issue has not been taken to higher authorities as the members of Syndicate are yet to be nominated.
