A marathon run that was conducted to raise awareness on the right to vote saw about 2000 students taking part.
The district administration organized the marathon to spread awareness among the public on the need to vote and that too in the most righteous manner in the May 16 Assemble elections. The marathon was flagged off by Collector R. Nanthagopal and commenced near the New Bus Terminus and concluded at Nethaji Stadium.
Students who participated in the awareness run were from the Muthurangam Arts College, D.K.M. College for women, Auxilium College, Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, Voorhees College and Bharath College of Education.
The students on reaching the Nethaji Stadium participated in a signature campaign and undertook a pledge to cast their vote in a fair manner.
Another highlight of the event was the screening of the short films featuring film stars through the publicity vehicle to underscore the need to vote.
An official stated,” The students participated in the marathon with a lot of enthusiasm. Giving a certificate would definitely serve as a motivation for them. In fact, some colleges expected to get certificates and even asked the officials about it.”
