Maruti Suzuki to Establish ITI at Mehsana to Provide Training in Technical Skills

Here is a good news for the people of Mehsana in particular and for the state of Gujarat in general, as Maruti Suzuki, the largest passenger car manufacturer of India, has come forward with its social responsibility work by setting up an industrial training centre at Mehsana in Gujarat in order to train India's young manpower in technical skills.

The new Industrial Training Institute will train 300 candidates every year for technical trading and Japanese shop floor practices. It will be known as 'Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing' (JIM). The centre would be fully operational by August next year, that is in 2017.

The establishment of JIM will usher a new era of collaboration between Japan and India.The new centre will also help in creating a pool of skilled manpower in the manufacturing sector that was desperately needed in the country.

The Japanese automobile giant has committed an initial investment of INR Rs 3.2 crore towards establishing the institute. While sharing the information, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said that the new project would take forward the vision of the two governments – Japan and Indian, to create a pool of skilled manpower in the manufacturing sector of India.

He also said that under this project a 'Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme' would further facilitate training of around 30,000 youngsters from the different parts of the country over the next 10 years.

The announcement came in the wake of a memorandum of cooperation signed on 11th November between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Government of India and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Government of Japan.
