MBA Graduates Express Dissatisfaction Over Packages Offered by Various Companies

MBA which was a status degree two decades ago has reduced itself to poor man's degree. The placements that took place in Gujarat Technological University is the best example for the above statement. The University conducted a three-day placement drive. A finance company attended the placement drive and mentioned that the company would not offer more than Rs. 1,44,000 per annum. The students from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Vadodara, attended the placement drive and expressed their dissatisfaction over the packages offered by various companies. On the other hand, the rural students were offered only Rs. 1,20,000 per annum.

It is disappointing for most of the students who paid Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 as the course fee. Some of the students opined that they would not mind a salary of Rs. 10,000 per month. Few students who passed in the month of April are unable to find a job. They felt that there are no takers for MBA. Students expressed their concern that they would have pursued B.Com instead of MBA if they had predicted this earlier.

A total number of 300 MBA graduates across the state attended the placement drive in Institute of Taxation and Accounting Professionals. 30 students have secured jobs, but the initial packages offered were Rs. 1,50,000 per annum. However, engineering students of various reputed universities and institutes are offered Rs. 3,50,000 per annum by Wipro.

The GTU is planning to negotiate with the companies regarding the packages offered. The curriculum and the course designed for MBA in the University is outstanding. Due to the heavy competition for the jobs, nowadays, the companies are taking this as an advantage and trying to recruit the candidates by offering lesser packages. The students who may think ‘something is better than nothing' are compromising on the offered packages.
