Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, Patna has sent a proposal to MCI to start the course of M.Ch (Master of Chirurgiae) in three more departments such as Gastro-surgery, Paediatric surgery and Neuro - surgery.
Dr Manish Mandal, an associate professor and the head of the department - Gastrointestinal surgery said, "that the course in the gastro department is available only in 6 premier medical institutions across the country till date. The course is available only in SGPGI, Lucknow in the Northern India."
According to the norms of MCI, the gastro department is fully equipped to start the course. The department has the required number of the faculty, Operation theatres, and seminar halls. The department also has a separate library with a rich collection of books.
The director of IGIMS Dr. N.R. Biswas said that the course has already started in the urology department, the MCI will visit the college in April and if they approve the course will start from the session 2016-17 itself.
Masters of Chirurgiae or Ch.M. is an advanced qualification in surgical medicine, with a course duration of 2-3 years, equivalent to MD.
