Around 500 students pursuing medical courses in the medical colleges located in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will lose their admission/ medical seat, as these students did not appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in 2016. Some of the medical colleges in these two states have been directed by Medical Council of India or MCI to cancel the admission of these students.

One of the officials of Medical Council of India termed these admissions as backdoor admissions as the medical colleges granted admission to these candidates after collecting capitation fee. Surprisingly, these two states opted to be a part of NEET in 2016. Around 400 students pursuing medical courses in 17 private colleges of Uttar Pradesh will lose their admission. An official notice has been released by MCI with regard to the same.

Tamil Nadu was one among the states that opted for NEET based admissions in 2016, despite which some of the colleges violated the norms.

Similarly, Dental Council of India (DCI) is also assessing the admissions of students at the various dental colleges. An official of DCI revealed that they received complaints that some of the dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan violated the admission norms and granted admission to students after taking additional fees.
