MCI Introduces Bio metric Attendance System for College Faculty
MCI has introduced a digital method to regulate attendance of faculty members of medical colleges.
In order to make the attendance process in medical colleges more transparent and help expose all the ghost faculties in the system, the Medical Council of India which is also the medical education regulator in the country has introduced a digital method to keep track on the attendance of the faculty of medical colleges.
The initiative has been named the Digital Mission Mode Project (DMMP), under which, biometric system will be used to monitor attendance of faculty members of 439 medical colleges.

By this new method, one can also predict the introduction of ‘One Country One Registration’, according to which an electronic Radio frequency Identification card will be issued to every doctor to help them practice doctorship across the country.
MCI President, Jayshree Mehta is very glad about the above step and is looking forward to its implementation. She says that it is a remarkable thing that every medical practitioner across the country will have a different code to them which will help in their identification via the biometric system. Also, by this method, they would get to know all the details regarding the presence of a particular faculty in the college just by sitting in Delhi and soon the problem of fake and ghost faculty in many medical colleges will be resolved.

She also said that this new digital method of calculating attendance under the DMMP project is a step towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India project. Also, now the working of MCI will be more transparent and efficient.
Under the digitisation project, people can not only submit applications for opening of new medical colleges or seat enhancement, a national database of faculty in all medical colleges will also be created using their Aadhar Card for biometric verification.

MCI President, Jayshree Mehta also said that aRFID enabled identity card will be issued to each and every faculty and MCI will keep a check on the attendance, salary and work status of the faculty. The time required to implement this project has been estimated to be approx 6 months and budgetary allocation of Rs 45 crore will be required.
